Meet Rooms: Facebook's new video conferencing tool

The pandemic generated by covid-19 has produced great changes in our society and especially in the way we must communicate today. According to the company, this virtual meeting application will initially be able to gather up to 16 participants in its desktop version and up to eight in its version for mobile devices, similar to what its main competitor, Zoom, offers today. 

Unlike other platforms, Rooms users will be able to access videoconferences without time limits through their computer or mobile device. The process of entering the room or video call can be done by simply sharing an access link, so the user will not need to download an application or create an account as requested by some of its competitors. 

Since the social isolation began, Facebook has doubled the number of calls that users make within Messenger and WhatsApp, achieving that more than 700 million accounts interact daily. 

Similarly, Microsoft, Zoom, Cisco and Google have developed modifications to their video calling platforms as they have seen record growth in the use of these tools with the passage of quarantine. 

This is how Microsoft presented on Tuesday April 21 its Meet Now tool for Skype, which allows you to organize online meetings of up to 50 people without the need to download a new application. Likewise, Meet has been Google's fastest growing platform this year and the trend is expected to be the same for all other platforms.
