5 Reasons Why We Love List Items
If there is something that we all like, it is the lists, when we see a link to an article whose title is: "5 ways to get links" or something like that, we generally tend to click the link and read the entire article.
Why do we love lists?
1) Practical information: Most articles in list format usually have practical information that we can apply at the time we have read it and not pure theory.
Most regular readers know that lists almost always have some "gold nugget", maybe if our list has 6 items, 5 of them do not say anything new, but if only one of the items on the list offers something novel and useful, the reader feels that the reading was worth it
2) Brief content: We all hate reading a huge block of text to rescue only a couple of ideas, the lists explain ideas and tips in just a couple of lines.
The reader wants useful information ... and wants it NOW.
3) They are well received: Bloggers love to write lists because they are well received by the public, when I write lists of tips or famous phrases applied to blogging I usually have a good number of clicks on my links and a good number of RTs on Twitter.
4) They are fun and easy to write: I have to admit, I have a lot more fun writing lists than long articles. To write lists, I start by choosing a topic and then brainstorm "subtopics" of the chosen topic.
Example
Theme: Fishing rods
Sub topics: How to choose a good rod, parts of a fishing rod, what kind of bait to use, how to take care of your rod, etc.
In a minute we already have the items for a useful list for fishermen, then it is just a matter of elaborating.
5) We all win: The best reason to write lists is that we all win, we have a fun and easy way to write useful content, and readers get information they can apply to meet a need.
