Advantages and Disadvantages of basing your online business on SEO
We all love SEO, but as the saying would go: not only web positioning lives the Online Marketer.
While a well positioned website can get enough traffic just from the SERPs to make a profit and grow there is a VERY important factor to take into account ... We do not own the search engines!
It is true, although we are not the owners of our position and anyone has the right to earn it tomorrow, the advantages of SEO far outweigh the disadvantages and it is worth investing in it.
Advantage
1- We catch our potential clients red-handed, they look for what we have to offer them.
2- We are not interrupting the customer as in other traditional advertising channels but we are helping you in your search.
3- We can send more than one message at the same timeNot only can we have one page in the SERP for the keyword we are optimizing for, but we can have several and send different messages to our different audiences within our market.
4- Long-term return on investmentIf we do not rest on our laurels and we know how to adapt to changes, the return on what we invest in web positioning can pay off for years.
I could go on citing advantages all day, but I think those are the main advantages that SEO gives us over other types of Internet advertising.
The bad thing is resting on your laurelsAlthough it can always happen that we have been doing everything right and that from one day to the next thanks to a change in the algorithms our favorite search engine considers that our website was not so great.
Disadvantages
1- SEO is not nuclear physics but it is difficult enough that we can make mistakes.
2- It is unpredictable, nobody can assure us that we will always improve our positions or even that they will be maintained over time.
3- If more than 50% of our income comes from SEO we are playing with fire.
This is not to be alarmed, in fact we should celebrate that the web positioning is giving us such good results, the only thing I want to highlight is avoid dependency or at least minimize it as much as possible.
