Free resources to get started in Online Marketing

A few days ago I received an email from a person asking me where to start learning everything related to Online Marketing, honestly I started as a web developer and maybe that's why it was easier for me to learn about the technical aspect, however this is not 100% necessary thanks to all the tools we have today.

There is no shortcut and the best lessons are learned from experience and setbacks.

If you want to get started in this world or if you have already started but want to have a more solid base, I leave you these resources.

1) eMarketing Book by Quirk: It is the book of a South African Online Marketing company that has clients like BMW, Warner Bros. and others… the book gives an introduction to the different types of Internet Marketing and success stories.

Very useful for learning technical vocabulary.

2) Search Engine Optimization: Miguel López's book on web positioning, useful to start taking the first steps.

3) Google Adwords Made Easy: A book by Brad Callen on PPC where he talks about Google Adwords tactics.

Other tips

1) Read good blogs:

Although books are good starting points, it is very likely that some information may be out of date, it is why it is so advisable to follow good professional blogs, since generally the information is new and fresh ... something essential in an industry like this.

Blogs in English:

to) SEOmoz: The most current information on web positioning, these people have an excellent research team that shares their knowledge for free, you can also access paid courses.

b) Matt Cutts: Google engineer who shares new information with webmasters.

c) CopyBlogger: Writing is essential for all types of online activities and this blog is completely dedicated to that.

and) Seth Godin: Reading Seth Godin's ideas is very inspiring and makes you see things from another point of view, his articles tend to be very short… so there is no excuse not to read him every day with your morning coffee.

Blogs in Spanish:

to) GirlSEO: Very good information on web positioning and other branches of Online Marketing, a lot of information collected over time and updates every day.

b) IkHuerta: Iñaki Huerta is another of the professionals who are not afraid to share what they know, the topics he deals with on his blog are positioning, analytics and web development.

c) Juan Marketing: Articles on Social Media and monitoring of its constant evolution.

2) Contact other professionals on Twitter:

Everything you read in the previous blogs may seem like basic Chinese to you, so create a profile on Twitter and seek to contact professionals in the environment to ask questions ... they generally answer without problems and in a short time.

Do not use programs to automatically follow and complete your profile well, people do not take seriously someone who does not even put a photo, a link to their personal page or who does not explain in their biography what they do.

3) Learn HTML:

You need to know at least the basics of HTML, the most recommended would be to take a basic web development course (HTML + CSS) that gives you solid ideas of how everything works.

4) Experiment:

The most important thing is that you experiment on your own, not all the blogs, books or Twitter contacts can serve you if you do not put what you read into practice ... in fact, practicing is the only way to discover what you need to improve.

I hope this article can guide you a bit if you are starting and that it has made you know some interesting resource if you have been there for some time 🙂
