Resize your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram images correctly
Creating quality content is essential for your audience to know your brand and consume your offer. For this reason, taking advantage of the potential of each platform implies directly creating pieces in the corresponding sizes and formats.
That is why I bring you this guide to publish your images on the most popular platforms and thus avoid that your messages do not fulfill the purpose for which you created them.
Sizes in Facebook images
When you paste a URL into a Facebook post, the platform immediately creates a preview of this link. This type of post usually looks like the following:

For Facebook to be able to generate this type of preview from a link, the image must be at least 1200 x 630 pixels, for best results.
Technically the image can be a minimum of 600 x 315 pixels and will generate an automatic preview. However Facebook recommends you take advantage of the greatest number of pixels to give more life to your images.
If your image is less than 600 x 315 pixels, the platform will generate a cover image like this:

Either option is correct, but it's up to you whether you want to focus on the image or the headline.
In the Facebook feed, images are always 470 pixels wide, whether they have to be expanded or collapsed.

The recommended size to make your image look its best and without any distortion is 1200 x 630. Also, the maximum height of a Facebook image is 1800 pixels and the platform will cut or adjust the size automatically if it exceeds these dimensions. .
The following are other important steps to consider when creating your content:
Profile: 180 x 180
Cover: 820 x 312
Event: 1920 x 1080
Video: 1290 x 720
Ads: 1200 x 628
Cover of a group: 1640 x 922
Image sizes on Twitter
The link preview version on this platform is called Twitter Cards and it comes in several versions.
Full-size 16: 9 image.

If you want your Twitter Card to look like this, the image should meet the following specifications.
- Minimum: 300 x 157 pixels.
- Maximum: 4096 x 4096 pixels.
- Weight: Less than 5MB
- Formats: JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF, in which case only the first image will be displayed.
- Aspect ratio: approximately 2: 1. If you meet the other Twitter requirements, the image will immediately be cropped to the 2: 1 aspect ratio.
Twitter also allows smaller cards that are displayed as follows:

To generate a card of this size, your image must have a 1: 1 aspect ratio and can be a minimum of 144 x 144 pixels.
Post images
Twitter images are displayed at a minimum of 506 pixels. If your image is smaller than this, it will be displayed with a blank space on the right side of the image.
This is how it looks in practice:

The recommended aspect ratio for Twitter images is 16: 9. However, there are some recommended sizes depending on what you want to share.
Image of a tweet with a link to share: 1200 x 628 pixels.
Tweet with a single image: 1200 x 675
Tweets with two images: 700 x 800
Cover image: 1500 x 1500 pixels
Profile photo: 400 x 400 pixels
Image sizes on LinkedIn
This platform handles images differently than Facebook and Twitter. There if you post a link with an attached image, it should have an aspect ratio of 1.9: 1, with an estimated size of 1200 x 627 pixels. In the same way, you can use pieces with a size less than 200 pixels and they will be displayed as a cover image on the right side of the publication.
However, if what I am looking for is to share an image without a link and it does not have the appropriate size, it will be adjusted and blank spaces will be added on the sides.

Here are some specifications for LinkedIn images:
Logo of a business page: 300 x 300 pixels.
Cover of a Business Page: 1192 x 220 pixels.
Cover image for a Person Page: 1584 x 396 pixels.
Image sizes on Instagram
The format of instagram images used to be square, however now you have 3 different posting options.
After all, instagram accepts videos and images with a width of between 320 and 1080 pixels. So if your image is less than 320 pixels, the platform will enlarge it and if it is higher than 1080 pixels it will shorten it to fit the platform.
To begin with, the square format or 1: 1 aspect ratio is the recommended size of the images is 1080 x 1080 pixels. The platform will compress your images to fit mobile devices.
In 2015 Instagram allowed the use of horizontal images to highlight landscape photos, with an aspect ratio of 1.91: 1. I recommend that for this format you work with a minimum of 1080 pixels high, so the ideal size would be 608 x 1080 pixels.
For images in vertical format, the ideal aspect ratio is 4: 5, which in the event that your image has a higher ratio, the platform will adapt it to this value of 4: 5 as a maximum. Keeping the width of 1080 pixels, the height ratio would be 1350 pixels.
For Instagram stories you have a little more space since the platform lets you expand and adjust the photo once you upload it. However, the best practice is to have a minimum aspect ratio of 9:16 and an image size of 1080 x 1920 pixels.
As in the stories, IGTV has the same aspect ratio and size for the videos. However, for pieces presented horizontally, the recommended ratio is 16: 8 and 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Conclution
Achieving the best result of your work on the different social platforms will depend on the operational capacity you have to produce content. For this reason, I recommend that you optimize your resources and do not wear yourself out adapting your pieces to each format, if that is going to mean a headache. On the contrary, I recommend that you optimize that social network in which you can have a better return on your work and only if you have the resources, think about expanding to other platforms.
In the same way, I recommend that if it is within your means, be as demanding as possible when giving the appropriate aspect ratio to your content, since you will have a better response from your audience.
