The Future of Search Engines: Personal Assistants

Although reading the title seems strange, this is one of the relevant trends that will shape the future of how people will search through digital media. Machine Learning is consolidated as a base technology in the development of new formats and possibilities in the advertising platforms that we use every day. This means that different personal assistant platforms have been developed such as Amazon Echo, Siri, Cortana, Google Now and Hound.

If we take Google as an example, now our personal assistant can give us notifications of upcoming events, distances between routes, restaurant reservations, etc.

This may sound simple but the best is yet to come. Google has insisted that it wants to become the most important platform for personal assistants. We see it in developments like the Waymo (the self-driving car) and Nest, a platform to connect all the services of your house: Security, temperature, alarms etc.

Why would this be a trend in the future of search engines? because as personal assistants get more and more sophisticated, more data collects, and more can be learned from that data from machine learning. In the same way, these platforms will be one of the most capable options to provide relevant search results for each user. Let's not forget that today most of the searches are still carried out through a keyboard, in the future we will probably simply ask one of these devices the question.

What do you think of this trend, have you used a personal assistant?
