Google Adwords: Links to Sites reach Visible URLs.

The Visible URL is a very important element of any Adwords ad, it allows us to make our real URL look "sexy" in the eyes of the user, being able to accurately reflect the search intention for different search terms no matter what. Let's use the same landing page.

Now Google is taking this one step further by adding the ability to use Visible URL links in true SiteLink style.

Although there is no official announcement from Google, this new function was initially reported by the English agency Periscopix and you already have a page in the Adwords help center: Components of a text ad

What are Site Links in Visible URLs?

Site Links in Visible URL is a new navigation option that allows Adwords users to navigate directly to relevant sections of the advertiser's website using an Adwords ad.

In the following example you can see how a user has the ability to access specific sections of the website promoted in the text ad, in this case they can directly enter the "women's shoes" section directly.

adwords links to site url visibleThis functionality is very similar to SiteLinks, so used in combination with Visible URLs sitelinks can result in a much more prominent ad and thus help increase the CTR of the ad.

COOL! But ... How do I show the links to sites in my Visible URLs?

Google collects the information necessary for this function directly from the advertiser's website, so the advertiser would need to add breadcrumb annotations to their website code.

How much does a click on one of those links cost?

The cost per click on the site links of the Visible URL is the same as a click made on the ad title.

When will sitelinks show?

Additional links in Visible URL will be displayed when the following requirements are met:

1) The ad must appear in the top 3 positions.

2) The ad must be shown in searches for desktops or laptops. (will not show on mobile devices)

3) The Visible URL of the ad should only show the top level of the domain. In other words, links to sites can only be shown in ads that use the Visible URL "wwww.mydomain.com" but not in "www.mydomain.com/something".

4) The landing page to which the ad is directed must contain the exploration annotations in its source code.

How do I know how my Site Links are working?

This information can be consulted as a new segment option on the Adwords platform.

I'm wiping the slime off the keyboard… when do I start using this ?!

This function is not yet functional, however, prepare your sites for sure in a couple of weeks it will be available 😉
