5 Tips for positioning sites in multiple languages
A question that arose from a reader is about how to position multi language sitesAlthough I have rarely worked with sites that handle multiple languages on the same domain, I made a list of tips when planning a project that requires presenting content in multiple languages.
1- If our content does not point to any particular country the best thing is to have different domains with the content properly translated: "Mydomain.com", "mydomain.com", "mydomain.com", and so on.
2- A key recommendation is to avoid automated translations, if it is worth doing a project for several languages it is also worth hiring a translator.
3- In the event that we need to have all the information within the same site it is much better to have different folders for each language instead of bringing the information to the same page from a database using variables.
Several sites detect the country of origin of the navigator and through that information they redirect him to the folder corresponding to the language of his country.
4- If we need to present a translation option, it is best if this option is simply a link to the folder, domain or corresponding page with the content in the chosen language.
5- When we need the site in different languages to target an audience from certain countries, it is best to register different domains each for the corresponding country.
If our objective is to get traffic from Spain, France and England, it is best to register the corresponding «.es», «.fr» and «.uk».
