Analysis of the elements of a web page and tips

I have not written any article entirely dedicated to SEO for some time, so now I leave you an analysis of the elements that make up a web page and what considerations must be taken with each of them.

Url

This is one of the most important parts of our page, the URL is the address through which users access the page, to explain the web positioning recommendations that are usually given for URLs, you can use the example of comparing to a web page with a book.

It is much better when the name of the book includes words related to its content, that is why URLs full of variables, numbers, etc. are not recommended.

If you had to buy an Italian cookbook and you found two cookbooks, one is called: «domain.com/italian-cooking» and the other is called: «domain.com/articleID=3012»

Which of the two cookbooks would you buy? URLs work in the same way on the Internet.

If the name of our page needs more than one word, it is best to separate it with hyphens "-" since they are easily interpreted. If we use spaces, bars, periods or another type of separator, it is possible that your URL is misinterpreted by some applications.

Summarizing:

1) Give meaning to our URLs

2) Using hyphens "-" as a separator, make it easier for the visitor to read, as well as for search engines and other applications.

HEAD

Having a well structured head is also very important, it is in the header where we include links to external files and important meta tags.

1) Try not to include "junk code": Separate the CSS and Javascript code in external files as much as possible.

I say "junk code" not because it is useless, but because when the page is examined by a search engine or a visitor reads it, this code does not provide useful information on our subject.

2) The «title» tag: It should serve as its name says, as a title for the page, we should think about what we are talking about on this particular page.

If our page is dedicated to iPhone applications, it is much more useful for both the visitor and the search engine to use "iPhone Applications - My domain" than "Welcome to my domain".

3) Meta Description: Although it no longer enjoys the importance it had years ago, it did not lose all its value like its brother the «meta keywords».

The main difference is that the Meta Description is seen in the SERPs when one of our URLs is shown as a result, this meta tag is VERY important since it is our cover letter in front of the possible visitor.

The meta description should summarize in a few words what the visitor will find if they click on our URL, in that sense to write it we should think the same way we write a tweet inviting to click on a link.

4) Canonical URL: It is also here where we define what the canonical URL of the page will be, for example I use "http://guillermopareja.com" as the canonical URL for my blog.

If we write "http://www.guillermopareja.com" it redirects us to the version without "www", this because there is no need to have more than one version of the same page.

The title next to the description are our business card in search engines, so we must make them relevant and meaningful according to our content.

We must include our main keywords in them naturally.

BODY

All our content goes inside the label So we need to present it as neatly as possible so that search engines can really understand what our content is about.

1) Use divs and not tables: This should be a thing of the past that is not commented on anymore, but I still see sites totally designed in tables.

The problem with tables is not that they are tables, but they leave a lot of junk code, a lot of Y they do not say anything about our content to the search engine or to the visitor.

Using layers makes our content more verbose in the eyes of the search engine.

2) Content structure: Much is said almost dogmatically in using keywords in tags

, put them in bold, etc ... although these statements are correct, why are they?

We can compare this with an interview in a magazine, the title of the interview would go in

, each of the questions in

and any important phrase or answer in bold.

This gives hierarchy and relevance to certain elements of the interview, The title of the interview does not have the same value as a random word from it.

The search engine needs to know what are the words or phrases that characterize our content and the best way to do it is with a good ranking of our text.

This is a short guide through the different elements that make up a web page, it does not take into account off-site elements or other on-site elements.

In future articles I will delve deeper into these elements and begin to consider their interaction with other elements both on and off our site.

Hopefully it was useful.
